Propak Africa 2025: smart packaging innovations

South Africa's premier trade exhibition, Propak Africa, is set to return in 2025, showcasing the latest innovations and advancements shaping the industries of packaging, processing, printing, labelling, and recycling.

A triennial event taking place at the Johannesburg Expo Centre, Nasrec, from 11-14 March 2025, Propak Africa offers a unique platform to explore cutting-edge innovations and forge meaningful connections across these industries.

With over 500 exhibitors at the show, attendees will see a diverse display of thousands of new products, advanced technologies, and industry-leading services. From sustainable packaging to advancements in smart labelling, printing, and processing, attendees will uncover valuable resources to elevate their business operations. With South Africa’s leading suppliers, technical experts, and key figures in the industry in attendance, the event serves as a hub for networking, collaboration, and insight into the latest trends shaping the future.

“We are expecting the show to be more than double the size of the 2022 event,” says Mark Anderson, Portfolio Director at Specialised Exhibitions a division of Montgomery Group, and organisers of the show. “Propak Africa will incorporate four co-located events - Pro-Plas Expo, The GAPP Print Expo, FoodPro Expo, and Pro-Label Expo – with more than 500 exhibitors occupying space in Halls 5, 6 and 7, as well as an outside exhibit area.”

“Automation and digitisation will be significant themes at Propak Africa, not only for general packaging but also within the plastics, printing and processing sectors. The rapid adoption of Industry 4.0 practices across manufacturing—including automation, smart packaging, and digitised machinery—highlights how critical these trends are to the expo. Exhibitors at Propak Africa are keen to demonstrate cutting-edge technologies, from automated machinery to advanced materials, enabling companies to increase efficiency, sustainability, and cost-effectiveness across production lines.”

Seminars and conferences

Over the four-day event, a comprehensive seminar programme will run across two dedicated seminar theatres, providing attendees with invaluable insights from over 50 expert speakers. The sessions will align with the show’s themed days, highlighting topics such as new products, sustainability, women in industry, and local innovation. Complementing the seminars, the Institute of Packaging South Africa (IPSA) will host three focused half-day conferences, adding depth and expertise to Propak Africa’s knowledge-sharing platform.

“Our team has collaborated closely with our partners to incorporate the latest exhibition technologies and to present a compelling lineup of visitor activations. We’re ready to deliver an engaging, value-packed event,” Anderson concludes.
